Wednesday 16th September 2.30 pm

Farewell and Thankyou! by Lucy Oldnall and her team from the Conserving and Historic Estate Project. Recounting the journey over the past 3 years of the Project. Lucy and her team will recount the challenges and truimphs encounted while working on the museum’s many listed properties.

Wednesday 14th October 2.30 pm

‘Britannia’ by Dr Patricia De Haan. When William Camden began his county-by-county description of Britain in 1577, published in 1586, it was ground breaking and went through many editions until 1806. Only the very best maps were included. Original maps will be at the talk for everyone to see!

Wednesday 4th November 2.30 pm

Fron the Archives James Thompson (1781 1871) Calcutts, Lightmore and Beyound by Steve Dewhurst. Annual joint meeting with Brosely Local History Society. Born in Scotland James was a civil engineer, iron and coal master. He worked with Thomas Telford on the Gotha Canal and later for William Hazeldine at the Calcutts Ironworks before moving on to Lightmore; a failed business venture at Fenton Park led to employment in Scotland before returning to the Midlands as a consulting mining engineer. A story of entrepreneurship, failure and persistence.
